Seoul is overcrowded with apartments. And yet again, more apartments are under construction. This continuous building process is inevitably unsustainable. I referred to Andreas Gursky's photographs with this painting. Being fully aware that repetition in Gursky's work portrays glorious grandeur and spine-chilling similarities of materialized city life, I aimed to adapt the latter into the painting.

As in Gursky's work, the same units are repeated multiple times in this painting, but in reduced sizes to make them look feeble and unstable. The ground beneath it is painted with detailed grass, aiming to resemble "Christina's World" by Andrew Wyeth. Metaphorically, modern-day Seoul feels like a "Christina's World" where barns are replaced with apartments.
